Suffolk is preparing to celebrate Independence Day as usual.

The Stars and Stripes Spectacular is set to start at 5:30 p.m. July 4, at Constant’s Wharf Marina, 100 E. Constance Road. In addition, a weekend-long celebration featuring all of the community favorite events will take place in Eclipse.

The evening in downtown will be full of events to celebrate the Sunday night event after canceling last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are so excited to be hosting events again,” said Chelsea Morgan, special event coordinator at Suffolk Parks and Recreation.

Folks can come enjoy music from Island Boy while waiting for the fireworks show. The band will play from 6 to 9 p.m. leading up to the fireworks with their repertoire of songs from various styles.

There will also be vendors selling items, as well as a marketing booth from Suffolk Parks and Recreation with fun giveaways. Folks can also purchase food and drinks from food trucks, including Kona Ice, Big Daddy’s Kettle Corn and other local bakeries. Beer and wine vendors will also be present and will take cash only.

There will also be a fun and simple takeaway craft for kids. The kids can get the packet of supplies to make a luminary back on the grass with their family.

The much-anticipated fireworks show will start at 9 p.m. over the water for the whole family to enjoy.

“We couldn’t hold it in 2020, so we are so excited to have it this year,” said Morgan. “I hope we’ll have a big turnout. It’s going to be great.”

There is no onsite parking for this event. Folks can park at one of the three shuttle locations. The locations are First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main St.; Suffolk City Hall Parking, 422 W. Washington St.; and Godwin Courthouse Building, 150 N. Main St. The shuttle will run from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m. and then resume after the fireworks show.

In Eclipse, the typical parade will take place on Saturday, July 3. Line-up will begin at 9 a.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. The parade will step off at 9:30 a.m.

On Sunday, the raft race will take place in Eclipse at 3 p.m., and fireworks will start at dark.
