The Suffolk Art League, in cooperation with the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, will offer a four-day Art Camp, July 19-22, from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day.
Angie Salerno, art teacher at Kilby Shores Elementary School, will serve as the instructor. Art Camp is open to students ages 7-10.
This year, Art Camp will be held at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, Art Room B, 110 W. Finney Ave., Suffolk. Registration for the Art Camp is $65 for Suffolk Art League members and $75 for non-members. This includes all necessary art materials and a daily snack. To register, go to www.suffolkartleague.com/kids-classes.html, call 757-925-0448 Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or send an email to suffolkartleague@verizon.net.
During the four days, students will explore light. From illuminated manuscripts to fireflies to lighted cards, different properties of light will be discussed and explored. Salerno will lead students through projects that will introduce traditional artist techniques and materials such as looking at light and shadow. She will also include a STEAM project that involves exploring circuits while making a card that will light up.
Parents are asked to have each child follow the listed safety protocols to enjoy this summer camp safely:
- Children must wear masks
- Students will be socially distanced
- Each student will be given their own set of tools to use (no sharing allowed)
- Parents must drop off their child and return promptly to pick them up.
- A light packaged snack will be served each day. If your child has food allergies, please alert staff.
Art Camp is made possible in part by a grant from the Suffolk Fine Arts Commission.
