Suffolk will have a chance this fall to help support the local school system.

The Suffolk Education Foundation is preparing for its next fundraiser on Oct. 22 at Sleepy Hole Golf Course, 4700 Sleepy Hole Road.

This golf fundraiser is the 22nd that the foundation has held. It is now in memory of Milton Liverman, who served 36 years with Suffolk Public Schools, including 10 years as superintendent. Liverman had a love for golf and supporting students to make a difference in their community and achieve their potential.

“This is just a way to gather people together to support the students, faculty and staff of Suffolk Public Schools,” said Patrick Belcher, president of the Suffolk Education Foundation.

Players can start arriving at 11 a.m., when the putting greens and driving range open. The shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. The event features a Florida Best Ball along with prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin and a hole-in-one contest. The day will end with dinner and the awards presentation.

Register before Sept. 6 for an early bird discount. Registration includes 18 holes, range balls, a Chick-fil-A boxed lunch, awards, beverages on the course and a chicken and barbecue dinner. There will also be raffle opportunities.

“We’re looking to fill the field and would love to have 25 teams sign up,” said Belcher. “We have reduced the prices until Labor Day to help people out, so please sign up early.”

The price for a foursome is $450, or $375 for the early bird deal. There’s also an opportunity to be a Birdie Sponsor for a team and hole sponsorship sign for $600, or $500 for the early bird. More sponsorship options are available on the foundation’s website.

All money made from this event will go towards the Suffolk Education Foundation’s numerous efforts to support the students, faculty and staff at Suffolk Public Schools.

“What’s great is that this event doesn’t have anything particular we’re funding,” said Belcher. “This allows us to put the money where it is needed most, whether it’s the store, grants or other special activities.”

Register or learn more at suffolkeducationfoundation.org. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 394, Suffolk VA 23439-0394. If registering a team, send players’ names. If sponsoring, include what level on the check.
