A man involved in a police shooting last year was arraigned Thursday in Suffolk Circuit Court on 20 felony charges relating to that incident and others.

Andrew Brock Jr., 31, was shot by Suffolk Police on Sept. 16, 2020, as they tried to serve warrants on him from Smithfield. He allegedly shot at them first, which is the basis of many of his charges.

Brock pleaded not guilty to three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer; one count of attempt to kill two or more people as part of the same act; four counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony; six counts of malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle; three counts of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer; one count of obstruction of justice; and one count of destroying property.

He pleaded guilty to one count of destroying a fire protection system in a jail.

Brock’s troubles last September began on Sept. 15, 2020, when he argued with his ex-girlfriend through her closed apartment door on Cattail Lane in Smithfield. When she refused to let him in, he kicked open the door, fired multiple rounds and struck an adult male in the abdomen.

The next day, Suffolk officers learned Brock was at a location in the Oakland area and went to serve the warrants. That was when Brock allegedly fired at them, and they wound up shooting back.

The officers were not injured. Brock was struck by gunfire, treated and airlifted to the hospital by Nightingale.

During the investigation, police received information indicating Brock was also responsible for a shooting at a police vehicle that happened in the downtown area the previous evening. The marked police vehicle was driving in the area of North Broad Street when it was shot three times. The officer was not injured. Charges from that incident were also included in Thursday’s arraignment.

Brock was sentenced on the Smithfield charges earlier this month. He is serving 10 years on those charges.

Brock requested a jury trial on the charges to which he pleaded not guilty. The trial was set for Oct. 31 through Nov. 4, 2022.
