Hurricane Ida delivered a devastating blow to the Gulf Coast on Sunday and has since steadily tracked across the Southeast with widespread flooding.

It’s not a hurricane anymore, but the storm is expected to bring some wind, rain and the slight threat of severe weather to Suffolk and Western Tidewater on Wednesday.

“The main concern is that we certainly could see some heavy rain and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening,” said Ryan Rogers, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Wakefield. “However, the bulk of the heavy rainfall is going to be to the north and northwest, in south-central Virginia.”

Rogers said local areas could see between 1 to 3 inches of rain, along with windy conditions. There is a slight risk for more severe weather, such as severe storms or possibly a tornado.

“(Wednesday) is a good day for everybody to have a way, or multiple ways, to receive warnings, whether it be flash flood or severe thunderstorm or tornado,” Rogers said.
