Labor Day closings announced

In observance of Labor Day, Suffolk City offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 6. Operations will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7. The city observes all state-designated holidays. Labor Day is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and all state offices are closed on this day.

The following city services, facilities and departments will observe the following schedule:

The Suffolk Public Works Department and TFC Recycling will pick up trash and recycling as scheduled next week. The Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. For more information on refuse collection, please call Public Works at 514-7630.

The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Suffolk Transfer Station and Regional Landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday.

Suffolk Transit will be closed on Monday. Operations will resume on Tuesday.

All Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Facilities (Mack Benn Jr., Booker T. Washington, King’s Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores and Oakland) will be closed Monday. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and Whaleyville Recreation Center will be closed on Monday. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will be closed on Monday.

Suffolk’s four major parks — Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole and Bennett’s Creek — will remain open Monday; however, no park attendant will be on duty.

The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Monday.

All Suffolk City Libraries — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk and Chuckatuck — will be closed for operations on Monday. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk libraries will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Suffolk Visitor Center will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

The Suffolk Executive Airport Terminal will be unmanned Monday, but the airfield, self-serve fuel island and restaurant will remain open Monday.
