Jennings Dodd Brooks, 58, a much-loved husband, father, son and brother, passed away on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021. Dodd was born to parents Eric Paul Brooks and Patricia Annette Cross Brooks on Sept. 21, 1962, in Suffolk, where he grew up with his younger sister Kris. Dodd graduated from Suffolk High School in 1980. From there he went to work at Newport News Shipbuilding where he worked for a number of years before leaving to start his own business. Eventually, Dodd found his way into commercial refrigeration. Dodd was a member of the Cub Scouts Troop 1 in his youth and in adulthood was a past member of the Suffolk Jaycees.
In 2003, Dodd married Tracy Lynn Story of Windsor. Two years later they were blessed with their daughter Sara Paige Brooks. Together they shared 18 happy years.
Dodd was an avid sports fan. In childhood, he played little league and midget basketball and football coached by his dad. From Jenna’s cheerleading to Chase’s football, to Sara’s volleyball and softball, as a dad, he was always there to cheer on his children. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, his beloved UVA Cavaliers and Dallas Cowboys, and he spent many a day fishing and playing golf.
Dodd is survived by his wife, Tracy Story Brooks of Carrsville; his children, Jenna Lynn Brooks and Chase Alan Brooks of Atlanta, Ga. and Sara Paige Brooks of Carrsville; his mother, Patricia Annette Cross Brooks; his sister, Kristine Cross Brooks; nephews, Jared Kent Brooks and LCDR Charles “Chuck” Reed and his wife Heather; nieces, Elizabeth Paige Lambert and Allyson Paige Story; and special cousin, Randy Vick. He is preceded in death by his Father Eric Paul.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, in Wright Funeral Home in Franklin.
