Holiday closings announced

In observance of Columbus Day and Yorktown Victory Day, Suffolk City offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 11. Normal operations will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12. The city observes all State-designated holidays. Columbus Day and Yorktown Victory Day are considered holidays for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and state offices are closed on this day.

The following departments, services and facilities will observe the following schedule:

The Suffolk Public Works Department and TFC Recycling will pick up trash and recycling as scheduled for the period of Oct. 12-15. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. The Southeastern Public Service Authority Transfer Station in Suffolk will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 11. The regional landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 11.

Suffolk Transit will run as scheduled on Monday.

All Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Facilities — Mack Benn Jr., Booker T. Washington, King’s Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, and Oakland — will remain open for Day Camp on Monday. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and Whaleyville Recreation Center will be closed Monday. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will be closed Monday.

Suffolk’s four major parks — Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole and Bennett’s Creek — will remain open Monday; however, no park attendant will be on duty.

All Suffolk City Libraries — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, Chuckatuck — will be closed Monday. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk Libraries will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Monday.

The Suffolk Visitor Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

The Suffolk Executive Airport Terminal will be unmanned Monday. The airfield, self-service fuel island and restaurant will remain open Monday.
