The Suffolk Police Department has scheduled a Law Enforcement Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Oct. 13.

The service will take place at City Hall, 442 W. Washington St.

Though typically held on May 15 each year, this service was canceled in 2020 and postponed earlier this spring due to COVID-19 restrictions.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. In previous years, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world would converge on Washington, D.C., to participate in a number of planned events that honored those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The event is open to the public.
