Home in Holland destroyed by fire

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Holland on Wednesday.

The fire in the 6500 block of Holland Road was reported at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday. The first units arrived at 3:51 p.m. to find heavy fire showing from the front of the two-story residence, according to a city press release.

All occupants had evacuated safely prior to firefighters’ arrival. Firefighters began an exterior attack on the fire, which had extended to the first and second floors.

The structure was determined a total loss, the press release stated. It is unknown at this time the total number of people who have been displaced.

A neighboring residence also sustained extensive heat damage to the exterior siding.

There were no injuries. Suffolk Police are also on scene, and the roadway in the immediate area will be closed for an extended period of time.

Responding units included Battalion 1; Engines 1, 2, 4, and 7; Tankers 1, 7, and 8; EMS-1, Rescue 1, Ladder 6, and Safety 1.

The Fire Marshal’s Office will be handling the investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
