Dorothy Pinner Kennedy, 92, passed away on Oct. 16, 2021.

A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Vernie Henry and Annie Pitt Pinner. She was predeceased by her siblings, Anne P. Knight, Eva Mae Crittenden, Irene P. Knight, Grace P. Schlaffer, Ruby P. Phelps, Robert L. Pinner, Clifton S. Pinner, Linwood Pinner, Russell Pinner and Charlie Pinner; and grandson Joshua Austin Kennedy.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Kennedy; nephews, Terry Phelps and Charlie Schlaffer; nieces, Betty Sue Plewes, all of Suffolk, and Betty Anne McCavitt, of Fort Mills, South Carolina.

Dorothy was a lifetime member of Oakland Christian Church; she was active with many church activities, including the cemetery committee and the Loyal Fellowship Class. She loved to make her yard beautiful, spending countless hours pulling weeds, working in her garden and growing flowers. Dorothy worked for many years as an office manager for a collection agency.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, by the Rev. Wayne Gardner at Oakland Christian Church, 5641 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, with the burial following at Newman Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk.
