To the editor:

Having served the citizens of Suffolk for 47 years, I know the importance that efficient tax collections and cash management have on funding essential city services such as public safety.

The citizens of Suffolk depend on adequately funded police, fire, and sheriff’s departments, along with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, to keep them safe in their time of need. Fully funded public safety is a need, not a want. Suffolk has been fortunate to be able to provide strong funding for these core services due to the effective and efficient tax collection and cash management leadership provided by our treasurer, Ron Williams.

In addition to working with Ron for 40 years, I have known him for his entire life, and I can tell the readers of this publication that Ron’s first priority every day is to serve his hometown in the best way possible. From my point of view with 47 years as a prosecutor in this city, during the last 40 of which Ron has been treasurer, my office could not have been able to carry out its duties effectively without the necessary funding that it has received to keep our citizens safe and best support the victims of crimes and their families. Simply put, Ron understands the direct relationship between his job and public safety, and understands that public safety is ultimately, one of the most critical functions of local government.

I encourage my fellow citizens to join me in voting to re-elect Ron Williams as Treasurer for the City of Suffolk.
