As many are still struggling this holiday season, two organizations are back to provide folks with what they need for Thanksgiving.

Suffolk United Inc. is hosting its free Thanksgiving Food Giveaway from 9 to 11 a.m. on Nov. 20, in the parking lot of Lake Meade Park, 201 Holly Lawn Parkway. Many know this as the park behind Kroger on North Main Street. The organization is prepared to serve more than 500 families.

Folks can drive through to receive all the fixings and sides for their dinner. Food items include potatoes, corn, collard greens, sweet potatoes, stuffing, gravy, yams, cornbread mix, cake mix, rice, peas, mac and cheese, string beans and cake frosting. Other supplies will be given out as well, including paper towels, paper plates, cups and utensils.

“We feel that everyone should have a great Thanksgiving,” said Karlisa Joyner of Suffolk United Inc. “We care for our city and to have local churches and businesses come together is overwhelming.”

Suffolk United Inc. this year has partnered with a few local businesses to provide a limited amount of turkeys to those who drive by.

Suffolk United Inc. is a collaboration of churches and businesses that strive to unite Suffolk by meeting different needs. The organization has served Suffolk in this way since 2018. There are no specific requirements or registration needs to receive food from this giveaway.

Also giving back again this year is LeOtis “The Turkey Man” Williams and LW’s Lawn Service and MWM Investment and Property Management with its 18th Turkey Giveaway. Williams will also hand out turkeys and fixings in a drive-through format from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at LW’s Lawn Service, 615 Old East Pinner St.

Due to the drive-through format, the event will not be based on vouchers as it was in past years. Instead, distribution will be based on car with a maximum of two per truck, three per car or SUV and five per van.

“Mr. Williams’ motto has always been to give back to the community,” said Sybil Bullock, coordinator of the event. “He always likes to give back to those in need in Suffolk and surrounding areas.”
