Due to delays in Dominion Power completing needed utility locations, Carolina Road near Cypress Chapel Road will not yet close as had been previously scheduled to support the replacement of the bridge over Cypress Swamp.

Carolina Road was scheduled to close Nov. 29 to allow for the replacement of the existing bridge, a four-span concrete T-beam superstructure on a concrete substructure spanning 90 feet. The city says the bridge replacement is necessary because it is functionally obsolete and because of the weight restrictions of the existing structure.

The new bridge will include a 100-foot long concrete span along with asphalt approaches.

Once Dominion has completed the needed utility work, the road closure will be rescheduled and advance notice given prior to the new start date.
