Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

After another year of uncertainty, a new Christmas play will remind folks of God’s grace and true joy.

Southside Baptist Church is having its Christmas play, “Foster Grace” at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 10, 11 and 12 at 917 Carolina Road.

“Foster Grace” follows the story of a newly widowed Grace who is facing the possibility of closing the auto shop she started with her husband when they were first married. This contemporary drama is something for the whole family to enjoy.

This play is an original by Ernie Chenault, who has written several plays for Southside Baptist Church for Christmas and Easter in past years, including “Home for Christmas,” “Plans for a King” and “Bread of Life.” The theme for this play is undeserved grace.

“I want to show that God will provide His children with undeserved grace,” said Chenault. “It’s not earned grace, but when you do what you’re supposed to do and God chooses to bless you to demonstrate His love. He never promised us happiness, but He did promise us joy.”

According to Chenault, the big hook for the show is the real car that will be on stage to set the scene for the auto shop. In addition, actors who have been in past Southside Baptist Church plays are on stage again this Christmas, including Allison Carr, Jason Thompson, Josh Butts and Tiffany Butler.

The play will have a special Youth Night on the Dec. 10 performance, but all ages are welcome. There will be childcare available for the Saturday and Sunday performances. In addition, there will be someone doing American Sign Language at the Sunday performance. The performances are free and should last around 90 minutes.

“It’s a really sweet story,” said Chenault. “Bring the whole family. It’ll be a good time.”

The play will be live-streamed on the church’s website, sbcsuffolk.org/sbc-live. It will also be available on the Southside Baptist Church Facebook page and Youtube Channel.
