Betty R. Thompson, 93, of Suffolk, passed away on Dec. 25, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Amasa Rogers and Susie Rogers and the widow of the late Wilbur L. Thompson Jr.
Betty was a graduate of Suffolk High School and the Medical College of Virginia. She worked for many years as a registered nurse at Obici Hospital. During her time of employment at the hospital, she went to Kenya and served for two years as a medical missionary. After retirement, she volunteered at the Western Tidewater Free Clinic. She was a long-standing member of Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church. She loved her Lord Jesus deeply and served Him faithfully throughout her adult life.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Wilbur Thompson III, of Chesterfield, Hope T. Leland (Glenn), of Windsor, Bruce W. Thompson (deceased) and Jane T. Brown (James), of Newport News; grandchildren, Wilbur Thompson IV, Tevis Thompson (Amber), Andrew Thompson (April), Nathan Thompson (Sarah), Zachary Thompson (Hannah), Adam Thompson (Sarah), Carrie Thompson, Thomas Thompson (Alea), Nicholas Thompson (Prarie); Jeb Thompson, Katherine Leland (deceased), Jay Leland, Anne Randolph Davis, Travis Davis and Kara Davis; and many great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations to be made to Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church Mission Fund, 3488 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23434. R.W. Baker & Co.
