Vaccine clinic available at East End Baptist Church

In partnership with the Virginia Department of Health, East End Baptist Church at 1056 Portsmouth Blvd. will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic from 2 to 6 p.m. Jan. 6.
Registration is highly recommended but not required.
The Moderna and Pfizer BioNTech vaccines will be available to those ages 12 and up. Pfizer will also be available for children ages 5 to 11, and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will also be available.
First, second and third doses as well as boosters will be available. Among Suffolk residents, 58% are fully vaccinated and 19.5% have received a third or booster dose. The highest percentage of fully vaccinated residents in Western Tidewater is 64.6% in Isle of Wight County, where 23.5% have also received a third/booster dose.
Conversely, 49.8% of eligible residents in Southampton County have been fully vaccinated, with 16.7% getting a third/booster dose. In Franklin, 59.3% of eligible residents are fully vaccinated, with 22.3% having received a third/booster dose, while in Surry County, 58.6% of eligible residents are fully vaccinated, and 21.1% have received a third/booster dose.
The Virginia Department of Health closed its community vaccination centers around the state Jan. 3 and Jan. 4 due to inclement weather, though its site at Military Circle Mall in Norfolk, as it has been doing on Mondays, served as a COVID-19 testing site Jan. 3.
VDH said it would make a decision later on whether to reopen them Jan. 5. People who had a vaccine appointment were to be notified of the cancellation and can visit vase.vdh.virginia.gov to reschedule.
The state health department notes that people should reschedule missed vaccine appointments as soon as possible, as second doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines can be extended up to 42 days following the first dose, though it advises that people should get their second dose at either 21 days (Pfizer) or 28 days (Moderna) following their first dose. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there is limited information on the effectiveness of a second dose vaccine beyond 42 days.
