John “Snapper” Raymond Pugh, 89, passed away on Jan. 28, 2022. He was born in Suffolk, the son of the late John E. Carr and Ruby Bradshaw Carr.  He was predeceased by his wife, Miriam Gordon Pugh; and siblings, Hazel Bailey and Charles L. Carr Sr. Raymond was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War.  He retired as a maintenance mechanic for Gwaltney. Raymond was a past member of Colosse Baptist Church. He was a member of Myrtle Hunt Club and a former member of the Woodmen of The World.

Raymond is survived by his daughter, Alison Pugh; son, Alan Pugh (Jackie); grandchildren, Charlotte, Raymond (Raven), Marsha (Kellie) and Michael (Jessica); eight great-grandchildren; sister, Becky C. Pippin (Billy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Micah Voight officiating. Friends may join the family other times at the residence of Joey Copeland Sr. and Sue Copeland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
