Old graduates early

Skylar Old, a 2018 graduate from Nansemond River High School, graduated a semester early from Old Dominion University this December. Skylar attended Old Dominion University’s Student Honors and Awards banquet on Dec. 16. The Student Honors and Awards are among the most prestigious university recognitions bestowed upon the graduating students. In addition to recognizing these students, the university honors inspirational faculty that supported them throughout their academic journey. The Alumni Association recognizes the undergraduate student in each college with the highest academic average. Skylar achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA through the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies. During her last two years at Old Dominion University, Skylar also worked full-time as a teacher’s aide throughout SECEP alternative schools. Starting in January 2022, she has been teaching students in her very own second grade classroom at a Virginia Beach “Achievable Dream” elementary school.

 

Biando named to Chancellor’s Honor Roll

Lauren Biando, of Suffolk, was named to the University of Mississippi’s Fall 2021 Honor Roll lists.

Biando was named to the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.75-4.0.

 

Local residents earn award from WGU

The following local residents have earned an Award of Excellence at Western Governors University. The award is given to students who perform at a superior level in their coursework.

Brooke Keesling, of Suffolk, has earned an Award of Excellence at Western Governors University College of Health Professions.

 

Radford University releases Dean’s List

Radford University has released its Dean’s List for Fall 2021. Appearing on the Dean’s List is the most prestigious academic recognition Radford University students can receive for their performance during a semester.

Students are placed on the Dean’s List if they meet four specific criteria. They must have 12 semester hours of coursework graded A-F; earn GPAs of at least 3.4 for all courses not graded on a pass-fail basis; obtain no grade lower than “C”; and no incomplete grades.

The following Suffolk students were included on the Fall 2021 Dean’s List:

  • Timothy Cassidy, finance major
  • Imani Gaston, interdisciplinary studies major
  • Brielle Little, interdisciplinary studies major
  • Julia Burkley, management major
  • Breon Case, management major
  • Emily Harris, management major
  • Saleena Lynch, psychology major
  • Eva Waddell, psychology major
  • Jesse Landolf, theater major

 

Park University announces Fall 2021 graduates

Park University announces its Fall 2021 graduates. The list of graduates includes those from the University’s flagship campus in Parkville as well as its 40 additional campuses across the country and online worldwide.

The following students earned a Bachelor of Science degree:

Ediberto Castro, business administration/management, of Suffolk (summa cum laude)

Kiara Adriana Russell, business administration/logistics, of Covington, Ga. (attended Nansemond River High School)

Charles Lamont Smalls, geography, of Suffolk

 

Concordia releases Fall Honors List

Concordia University Wisconsin officials have released the Fall Honors List for the 2021-2022 academic year. To be eligible for the honor, students must achieve a minimum 3.6 GPA.

Among the students named to the list was Suffolk’s Emily Binley, a junior majoring in graphic design.

 

Local residents named to William & Mary Dean’s List

Kaitlyn Brittingham and Katie Diehl were recently named to the Dean’s List at the College of William & Mary for the fall 2021 semester.

In order to achieve Dean’s List status, a full-time degree seeking undergraduate student must take at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.6 Quality Point Average during the semester.

 

Thibodeau named to Dean’s List

Alex Thibodeau, of Suffolk, was named to the University of Utah’s Fall 2021 Dean’s List. Thibodeau’s major is listed as Parks Recreation & Tourism.

Thibodeau was among more than 9,600 students named to the Fall 2021 Dean’s List at the University of Utah. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher in at least 12 graded credit hours during any one term.
