Wilbur Lee Lane Sr., 82, of 5624 Whaleyville Blvd., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, in Sentara Obici Hospital.
Mr. Lane was born in Chowan County on March 31, 1939, and was the son of the late Jesse M. and Elizabeth Driggs Lane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Lane.
A retired foreman and heavy equipment operator with the Virginia Department of Transportation, he was raised in the fellowship of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, was a member of the Cisco Hunt Club in Chowan County and the Suffolk Moose Lodge #141. His membership in the Moose Lodge spanned for nearly 50 years and included him serving in every chair, as Governor three times and currently as the Assistant Secretary of its Moose Legion #199.
Surviving is his wife of nearly 64 years, Alice Mae Lassiter Lane; three sons, Wilbur Lane Jr. of Suffolk, Kenny Lane (wife, Becky) of Aulander and Roger Lane (wife, Mayme) of Windsor; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, N.C., and will be conducted by the Rev. Kip Vinson. The burial will follow in the Lassiter Family Cemetery.
Moose Rites will be accorded at 6 p.m. Thursday evening in the funeral home followed by
