Sylvia Lawson Downs-Tibbs, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, after her long and courageous battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Eunice Lawson, as well as her first husband, Earl W. Downs.

Sylvia loved her family and she loved the Lord. She had a beautiful singing voice among her many talents. For years, she was the office administrator for Obici Hospital School of nursing.

She is survived by her husband, Franklin Tibbs; sons, Chuck Downs (Gina), Mark Downs (Michelle) and David Downs (Joyce); brother, Paul Lawson (Dot); sisters, Gerry Holdsworth (Johnny) and Peggy Severs (Mike); grandchildren, Jackson, Sarah, Mitchell, Chase, Scott and Callie Downs; along with great-grandchildren, Arthur, Isadora and Maverick.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington, St. with burial to follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held at Providence United Methodist Church, 3105 Providence Road, following the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the funeral home.
