Forbes has ranked Suffolk-based TowneBank as the No. 9 bank on its 2022 Best Banks in America list, taking the top spot among all competitors in Virginia and North Carolina.

This is the fourth year that TowneBank has appeared on Forbes’ list and the first time appearing in the top 10, the company said in a news release. Forbes’ 13th annual look at America’s Best Banks ranks the 100 largest publicly traded banks and thrifts based on key metrics related to growth, credit quality and profitability. S&P Global Marketing Intelligence provides the data, with rankings performed by Forbes.

After opening its first three locations in April 1999, TowneBank has worked to maintain 22 years of consecutive earnings growth. Executive Chairman Bob Aston said stellar financial results are a derivative of the company’s “ultimate goal to enhance the financial and social well-being of the communities where the bank operates.”
