Those who want to spruce up their gardens this spring have a chance to get new plants and learn how to better take care of them.

Suffolk Master Gardeners will host their annual Spring Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian  Church, 3488 Godwin Blvd.

The Suffolk Master Gardens hold the sale every spring as a fundraiser and to help people of all skill levels take care of new additions to their garden. Master Gardeners will bring plants grown in their own gardens to sell and educate buyers on how to take care of them.

There will be an assortment of flowers, herbs, small saplings, bulbs and other spring flowers and plants for sale. Each plant comes with educational material to help anyone, no matter their skill level, keep their purchase thriving.

“We’re really excited to be able to be out in the community again,” said Nancy Barber with the Suffolk Master Gardeners. “We’re eager to be talking with people in Suffolk again about putting new plants in their gardens.”

The Master Gardener program is a volunteer partnership with Virginia Cooperative Extension that is dedicated to working with the community to promote environmentally sound horticulture practices to improve the local environment. All money raised by the plant sale will go back into the community through education programs and the maintenance of five local community gardens in Suffolk.

“This is a fundraiser for the Suffolk Master Gardeners to support community education for good gardening practices, support school gardening programs such as Ready, Set, Grow for first graders, outreach at local events like the Suffolk Farmers Market, the Suffolk Peanut Festival and Taste of Suffolk, and the support and maintenance of five local community gardens in Suffolk,” Barber said.

Along with selling plants, Master Gardeners will be present to answer any questions about gardening or specific plants. There will also be an area for kids’ crafts and baked goods for sale.
