A Suffolk boy accidentally shot himself in the leg inside his family’s home early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the 600 block of Kinsey Lane in east Suffolk after dispatchers were notified at 1:24 a.m. that “a juvenile male had accidentally shot himself,” police said in a news release.

Officers secured the firearm. Following medical assessment and treatment from Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel, the boy, whom police did not identify, was transported to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

The incident remains under investigation.
