NSA whips Catholic to wrap up conference play

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s baseball team closed out Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools regular season play Thursday with a 10-4 win over Catholic High School.

Liam Shughrou pitched four scoreless innings in relief, striking out six and walking none, to earn the pitching win.

Ty Howlett had two hits, and Matthew Faircloth and Tyree Claxton drove in two runs apiece for NSA, which improved to 12-6 and completed conference play with an 8-2 mark.

On Tuesday, NSA beat Steward School 6-4.

Brodie Phillips threw a complete game and Josh Morris, Ty Howlett and Christian James each had two hits.

Phillips improved to 4-0 on the mound.

NSA Coach Joey Seal said he expects the Saints to be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the TCIS tournament, which starts Tuesday.
