Man shot, homes struck by downtown gunfire

A man was injured and two homes struck by gunfire Monday night in the 200 block of Jackson Street downtown.

The gunshot victim “self-transported” to Sentara Obici Hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening wound, Suffolk police said in a news release.

The Suffolk 911 Center received a call at 9:21 p.m. about shots fired in the area of Jackson Street, which connects with South Saratoga Street.

Responding officers found several shell casings in the street and two residences that had sustained damage; none of the occupants was injuried.
