Angus McCollum Hines, 61, passed away on his birthday, May 31, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, Angus Irving Hines Jr., and Genevieve McCollum Hines.
He was a lifelong resident of Suffolk and was known to all who loved him as “Mac”. Mac will be remembered by his family and friends as a special gift from God with an amazing ability to bring joy to all who knew him.
As a young man, he returned to Suffolk with support from his family to embrace a movement sweeping across Virginia to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities to gain greater independence in their home community. Mac was a founding resident of the first group home and sheltered workshop opened in Suffolk by Western Tidewater Community Services Board. There he made lifelong friends and enjoyed spending time with his father and extended family.
Survivors include his sisters, Ann Russell Mauer of Virginia Beach and Marilyn H. Stulb of Charlotte, N.C. and a brother, Angus I. Hines III of Belle Haven, along with countless friends and care providers.
