The Rev. Carl L. Sweat Jr. of New Road departed his life and went to be with the Lord on July 25. He was born on March 14, 1963, to Virginia Sweat Murphy and the late Carl Leondus Sweat Sr.

The Rev. Sweat is a 1982 graduate of Forest Glen High School, as well as a 1986 graduate of Virginia Union University where he received a bachelor of arts in sociology with a minor in urban affairs.

He is survived by his wife, Janice (35 years); children, Carl III and April; mother, Virginia Sweat Murphy; and siblings, Carlette Sweat Copeland, Kenneth and JuDonald.

A celebration of life is at noon Saturday, July 30, at Zion Christian Church, 5200 Quaker Road, Suffolk. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
