Student found with gun at Lakeland High School in custody, no injuries reported

Suffolk Police Department is investigating an incident involving a student with a firearm on the campus of Lakeland High School, located in the 200 block of Kenyon Rd, Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Suffolk Police responded to the school at about 10:54 a.m. after being alerted by Suffolk Public School administrators of a student believed to be in possession of a firearm while on the school campus, officials said in a news release. Suffolk officers immediately put the school on lockdown and secured the premises.

A juvenile student, male, age 16, was promptly located and searched by Suffolk Police and found to be in possession of a firearm, police reported. The student is in custody. There were no injuries reported during this incident.

The incident remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time, Suffolk police said in the news release.
