16-year-old male held on charges linked to bringing firearm on school property

A 16-year-old male student is being held at Chesapeake Juvenile Detention Center on three charges in connection with a weapon Suffolk Police found on him at Lakeland High School Wednesday.

In a Thursday, Sept. 21 news release, Suffolk Police Department said they have charged the juvenile with possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon by a minor and possession of a firearm on school property.

In a release Wednesday, SPD reported that they responded to Lakeland High School located in the 200 block of Kenyon Road at 10:54 a.m. after Suffolk Public School administrators alerted them of a student believed to be in possession of a firearm while on the school campus. Suffolk Police immediately put the school on lockdown and secured the premises.

The student was located, searched and found to have the firearm in his possession, police reported. No one was injured and the student was taken into custody. 

There were no injuries reported during this incident.

The incident remains under investigation and police said no further information is available at this time.
