The homemade sausages will be back once more at Providence United Methodist Church’s annual bazaar.

The event, set for Oct. 22 at 3109 Providence Rd. near the intersection with Pruden Boulevard, will last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature homemade country sausage. It’s a tradition among the men of the church that has been going on for more than 50 years, according to Bobbie Cowan, one of the organizers of the event, who added that large crowds are typical for it.

The bazaar has been a fundraiser for the church for about 70 years.

And though many come simply for the sausage, which comes from an old family recipe passed down over the years, there’s much more to the bazaar.

Also available will be Brunswick stew sold by the quart, Daisy hoop cheese, a bake sale with numerous items for people to choose from, sausage biscuits and homemade chicken salad as part of its country store, and an outdoor grill featuring hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages.

A “this and that” tent filled with antiques and collectibles will give visitors a place to find hidden treasures for purchase, and there will be a children’s area set up for the younger ones.
