City announces closings for Thanksgiving holiday

In observance of Thanksgiving, City of Suffolk offices closed at noon Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022 and remain closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25.

Normal operations will resume at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28. The city observes all state-designated holidays. Thanksgiving is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia and all state offices are closed on these days.

Suffolk Public Works Department operates on a one-day delay starting on Thursday, Nov. 24. TFC Recycling also operates on a one-day delay starting on Thursday, Nov. 24. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds residents that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. The Southeastern Public Service Authority Transfer Station in Suffolk and the regional landfill are closed Thursday, Nov. 24 but reopens from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25.

Suffolk Transit does not operate Thursday, Nov. 24. Normal operation resumes Friday, Nov. 25.

All Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Facilities — Mack Benn Jr., Booker T. Washington, Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, and Oakland — and the East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Curtis R. Milteer Sr. Recreation Center closed at noon Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022 and remain closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25. Normal operations resume Monday, Nov. 28, 2022

All four major parks — Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole, Bennett’s Creek — remain open, however, no park attendant is on duty.

The Suffolk Art Gallery closed at noon Wednesday, Nov. 23 and reopens at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29.

All Suffolk Public Libraries — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, Chuckatuck — closed starting from noon Wednesday, Nov. 23. All three reopen at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28.

The Suffolk Visitor Center is closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25. The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum is closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25.

The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal is closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25. The airfield and self-service fuel island remain open.
