Festival of Lights shine through the holiday season

Locals can attend Sleepy Hole Park for the Festival of Lights until December 30, 2022. The event will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation is continuing its third annual Festival of Lights event at Sleepy Hole Park located on 4616 Sleepy Hole Rd.
Sponsored by Cross Realty, the event runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. until Dec. 30 The Festival of Lights is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Marketing Specialist Amber Miller and Parks and Recreation Supervisor of Special Events Chelsea Morgan provided details about the holiday event.
“The Festival of Lights is in its third year running. We plan to do this every year,” said Morgan. “It started during COVID in 2020 and this event is free and open to the public. It’s a drive-through holiday light display in Sleepy Hole Park from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., every day of the week.”
Morgan also described what sections the drive-thru light show will have for the public.
“I think it’s a good description to say it’s a neighborhood or a hometown holiday lightshow.” she said. “We have different sections of lights on display. We have the North Pole section. There’s a farm section, and there’s a toyland section.”
Likewise, Miller said the event is fun and safe for the whole family.
“It’s truly just a magical experience for the whole family to enjoy,” she said. “Bring your kids, pack your family in the car, and what we value about it so much as Chelsea mentioned, we started our first year of Festival of Lights in 2020 and the reason it even came about was because we were trying to find a way that people could still celebrate the holidays, enjoy getting out of their home and doing something spectacular to get in the holiday spirit, and this is a way for us to still continue that while being safe, without having to be in large crowds and all that.”
Miller emphasized how it is free to the public and easy to stop by and drive around in.
“Again, a very quaint holiday neighborhood experience, just very magical for the whole family,” she said. “You don’t even have to buy tickets in advance. If it’s a last minute deal, it’s a last minute deal. You all pile in the car and drive around our loop and enjoy all the wonderful lights.”
