In observance of the New Year’s holiday, Suffolk City offices are closed Monday, Jan. 2, reopening for normal operations at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The city observes all state-designated holidays. New Year’s Day is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia and all State offices are closed on this day.

The Suffolk Public Works Department is picking up trash as regularly scheduled. TFC Recycling also is conducting its normal recycling collection routes. The Suffolk Public Works Department reminds everyone that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. From Dec. 27 through Jan. 6, the Suffolk Department of Public Works Refuse Division is collect all Christmas trees and boxes as a special collection. During this time, Christmas trees and boxes are not counted toward the 12 free special collections. Any Christmas trees put out for collection after Jan. 7, will be picked up but count as a special collection. The trees and boxes need to be placed at the curb the same day as the residence’s regular collection. The trees do not have to be secured and the boxes do not have to be collapsed.

The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk and the Regional Landfill is open during normal hours Monday, Jan. 2.

Suffolk Transit is not operating Monday, Jan. 2.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation Joint Use Recreation Centers — Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland, Booker T. Washington, Mack Benn Jr. — closed Wednesday, Dec. 21 and are remaining closed until Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Curtis Milteer Recreation Center are closed Monday, Jan. 2.

The Suffolk Art Gallery is closed Monday, Jan. 2.

The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office is closed Monday, Jan. 2.

Suffolk’s four major parks — Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett’s Creek— remain open Monday, Jan. 2; however, no park attendant will be on duty.

All Suffolk public libraries — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, Chuckatuck — are closed Monday, Jan. 2. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk Libraries reopen at 10 a.m., Jan. 3, while the Chuckatuck Library reopens at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9.​

The Suffolk Visitor Center and Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum are closed Monday, Jan. 2.  The Visitor Center reopens at 9 a.m. and the Railroad Museum at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal is unmanned on Monday, Jan. 2. The airfield, self-service fuel island and restaurant remain open Monday, Jan. 2.
