A British invasion: Film series set for Suffolk Center

A British invasion is coming to Suffolk.

Suffolk Tourism, in partnership with the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, presents a series of three popular films featuring British characters and themes. Each movie will be shown in the Birdsong Theater, located on the second floor of the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, 110 West Finney Ave.

Show time is 7 p.m. on designated dates, with $2 per person admission. To purchase tickets, contact the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts box office at 757-923-2900 or visit www.SuffolkCenter.org. Tickets will be available at the door 30 minutes prior to show time.

“Downton Abbey – A New Era”

Part of the sprawling Crawley family goes on a grand journey to the south of France to uncover the mystery of the dowager countess’s newly inherited villa, while the rest of the family contends with the arrival of motion pictures at the Abbey. The cast includes Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Jim Carter, and Elizabeth McGovern. This 2022 romantic drama is rated PG and has a running time of 124 minutes.

“Rocketman”

Set to his most beloved songs, this epic musical tells the story of a young Reginald Dwight’s fantastical transformation to Elton John. Collaboration with singer-songwriter Bernie Taupin catapults Elton to international superstar, becoming one of the most iconic figures in pop history. The cast includes Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Richard Madden. This 2019 comedy is rated R and has a running time of 121 minutes.

“Bohemian Rhapsody”

This is the foot-stomping story that traces the meteoric rise of the legendary British rock band, Queen, and lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers in history. The cast includes Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, and Joseph Mazzello. This 2018 biographical drama is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 134 minutes.
