Wyne named planning and community development director

Suffolk City Manager Al Moor appointed Kevin Wyne as the city’s next director of planning and community development effective Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Wyne joined the City of Suffolk as principal planner in 2016. He was promoted to assistant director of planning and community development in March 2022 and has been serving as interim director of the department since May 2022.

Wyne brings more than 16 years of professional planning experience at the local level to the role.

Before his time with Suffolk, he served in a planning and zoning capacity with the City of Hopewell, the Town of Warrenton and the City of Poquoson.

Since being with the City of Suffolk, Wyne has managed many commercial and residential development projects, large-scale rezoning projects, the adoption and implementation of the Downtown Master Plan, and major amendments to the City’s Unified Development Ordinance.

Wyne said in a news release that he looks forward to working with the community to see the current Comprehensive Plan update through to adoption and continuing to assist the community with their planning and development needs.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in urban studies and geography from Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as a certified planner certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners.
