A fire in the 100 block of South 10th Street in downtown Suffolk early Sunday displaced six people.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to the residential structure fire after emergency communications received a call at 5:01 a.m. 

Engine 3, Ladder 3 and Medic 1 arrived at 5:07 a.m. to find smoke showing from the front of the single story structure, according to a Fire and Rescue news release. Fire was located in the living room. 

The fire damage was contained to the area of origin, with smoke damage throughout the structure, officials said. 

The fire was placed under control at 5:14 a.m. 

Two adults and four children are displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Two adults received medical evaluation for smoke inhalation, but were not transported to the hospital. No firefighters were injured. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation, with Fire Marshal 2 and Fire Marshal 7 leading the investigation. 

Ten Fire and Rescue units responded, along with two from the fire marshal’s office and Suffolk Police.
