One man injured in Smith Street shooting

One person was injured Monday afternoon in a shooting incident reported in the 100 block of Wellons Street.

Suffolk 911 centered received several calls for service at about 2:24 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20 reporting shots fired.

An adult male was located in the 100 block of St. James Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound, police said in a news release.

The preliminary investigation revealed the shooting incident occurred in the 400 block of Smith Street. The victim, a 25-year-old male, was treated on scene by Suffolk Fire and Rescue, then transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The investigation remains ongoing at this time, and police said there is no further information available for release.
