Savage headed to Collegiate Wind Competition finals

 

Joshua Savage of Suffolk, an engineering student at James Madison University, is part of a team of 20 JMU students that has advanced to Phase 2, the final phase, of the 2023 Collegiate Wind Competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

During Phase 2, teams will finalize their design reports for their wind turbine prototypes, according to a new release from the university. In addition, they will build and test their turbines, finalize their site design for their hypothetical offshore wind farm and continue to build connections with the wind industry and their communities.

The selected teams will be given additional funding to complete their projects and to attend the final event May 15-19 at University of Colorado Boulder.

Matalevich makes dean’s list at RIT

 

Tyler Matalevich of Suffolk was named to the dean’s list at Rochester Institute of Technology for the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. Matalevich is in the mechanical engineering program.

Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for dean’s list if their term grade point average is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of incompletes or grades D or lower; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

 

Four local residents earn WGU award

 

Four Suffolk residents have earned an Award of Excellence at Western Governors University for performing at a superior level in their coursework.

The local students receiving the Award of Excellence are:

  • Johnathan Benge at Western Governors University College of Information Technology.
  • Nicole Hopper at Western Governors University College of Health Professions. 
  • Saratta Murphy at Western Governors University College of Business. 
  • Mary Stiles at Western Governors University School of Education.
