Railroad crossing closure on Carolina Road

Suffolk Public Works Traffic Engineering advises motorists of an upcoming railroad crossing closure at Carolina Road beginning Monday, March 6.  

Norfolk Southern notified the city they are closing the railroad crossing on Carolina Road between Obici Industrial Boulevard and Greenfield Crescent for maintenance and repairs.  

The closure is expected to take three to five working days.

Weather dependent, the work is set to start at 8 a.m. March 6, and is estimated to be complete by Friday, March 10.  

Public Works will provide an update closer to the date of closure, the department said in a news release.

Message boards are currently in place to notify motorists of the upcoming closure. Motorists are encouraged to follow the detour signs in place.
