89th District to hold Republican Party Canvass

In an official call made by Miki Miller, Chairman of the 89th House District Committee of the Republican Party, the 89th House District Committee holds a Legislative District Party Canvass from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, May 6.

The canvass will nominate the party’s candidate for the delegate race to face a Democratic Party challenger in the Nov. 7 general election, according to the Republican Party of Virginia’s official site. 

Don Carey, Jason Wooldridge and Baxter Ennis are seeking the GOP nomination in the new 89th District.

Locations for Suffolk Republicans wanting to participate in the canvass are Whaleyville United Methodist Church, located on 6312 Whaleyville Blvd., for the Suffolk precincts and Western Branch Community Center, located on 4437 Portsmouth Blvd., in Chesapeake for the Nansemond and Pughsville precincts.

Participating voters must present a valid government-issued photo identification to receive a ballot. GOP officials said there are no absentee ballots, proxies or provisional ballots permitted. Likewise, no write-in votes are allowed as votes will only be counted for the candidates whose names appear on the official ballot.
