Nelda Taylor Weaver, 96, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023. She was born in Nansemond County, the daughter of the late Joseph Edgar Taylor Sr. and Bernice Lucy Warthan Taylor. She was predeceased by her husband, Joshua “J.N.” Noah Weaver, and brother, Joseph E. Taylor Jr. Over the years, Nelda worked in the cafeteria at Kings Fork Elementary School and was a manager at Weaver Carpet & Tile. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and the Gray Memorial Sunday School Class. She served on numerous committees at the church and was a part of the United Methodist Women. 

Nelda is survived by her daughter, Faye Marcum; son-in-law, Ronnie; her sons, Edgar R. Weaver and Thomas M. Weaver and daughter-in-law, Cindy. In addition, she had five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Monte, wife Anna and children Wyatt and Helena; Casey, wife LeAnna, and their daughter Cayleigh; Tommy and Cindy’s children, Olivia, Noah and Emily. Nelda had two sisters, Betty T. Weaver and Sue T. Turner and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Nelda was a favorite of her family and friends. She was a devoted sister to Betty and Sue and they spent most every Sunday afternoon together often playing cards. Her love for children meant she was the go-to person for entertaining children. Nelda was quite the seamstress, even making her daughter’s wedding gown. She had pizza parties after church for her nieces and nephews. Nelda was known for growing beautiful flowers and instilled a love of flowers in her children and grandchildren. Most of all, Nelda was known for her kindness and love for her family, especially her grandchildren.

A funeral service is at 3 p.m. Monday, May 8, at Providence United  Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Meyers officiating. Further time of fellowship follows in the church fellowship hall. The burial is at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at  Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, Sanctuary Repair Fund, at 3105 Providence Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.
