Fire damages house on Kilby Avenue early Sunday

Three adults were displaced in a Sunday morning fire at a home located in the 400 Block of Kilby Avenue.

Emergency Communications dispatched Suffolk Fire and Rescue at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, May 14, for a residential structure fire. 

Six units arrived at 6:19 a.m. to find heavy smoke showing from the second floor of a two-story detached residential structure, a department news release stated. An aggressive interior fire attack was initiated to find and control a well advanced fire on the second floor.

Searches on the interior found no occupants and the fire was placed under-control at 6:38 a.m.

The structure has heavy smoke and fire damage to the second floor, according to the release. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.  

There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters.

The three adults displaced are being assisted by the American Red Cross.  

Suffolk Police provided traffic control. Firefighters remained on the scene for several more hours after the blaze was under control.
