Suffolk man arrested on felony hit and run charges in Chesapeake

A Suffolk man is in custody following a hit and run collision in Chesapeake Monday, May 15, that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.  

The Chesapeake Police Department arrested Kevin Royals Jr., 33, of Suffolk, Tuesday May 16 on charges of felony hit and run, according to a department news release.

Chesapeake Police responded to the 4200 block of Portsmouth Boulevard near Coffman Boulevard at 8:31 p.m., May 15, in reference to a hit and run accident involving a motorcycle.

When police arrived on scene, they located an adult male motorcyclist who had been hit by an unknown vehicle, according to the release. The driver of the motorcycle was immediately transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.  

The Chesapeake Police Crash Reconstruction Team was deployed to investigate the crash. CPD stated in the release that the Reconstruction Team was able to identify Royals as the driver who left the scene of the accident after collecting evidence left behind at the scene and reviewing video footage from the area.  

The driver of the motorcycle, an adult male, remains hospitalized in stable condition.
