Cambridge Drive duplex damaged by Saturday night fire

The American Red Cross is assisting three people with finding a place to live after a late-night fire Saturday damaged a two-story  duplex.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded last night to a residential structure fire in the 6200 block of Cambridge Drive after the city’s emergency communications was contacted at 11:41 p.m. Saturday, June 3.

The department said the first fire unit arrived on scene at 11:50 p.m. where crews found moderate smoke coming from the residence.

Interior fire attack crews found heavy smoke and high heat conditions, the release said, but they were able to contain the fire into the room of origin.

Officials said the interior of the home suffered heavy smoke damage throughout.  The fire was marked under control at 12:26 a.m. 

All occupants and pets had evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews, the  release said.

There are no reported injuries. 

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

Fourteen Fire and  Rescue units responded and were assisted by two units from Chesapeake. One fire marshal unit also responded.
