Deacon Johnnie Lee Pope was born on Nov. 2, 1943, and transitioned from this life Wednesday, May 31, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Henry Pope and Classie Mae Boone Pope, and his son, Jeffrey Fenton Pope. Left to cherish in his memory are his wife of 57 years, Joyce Odell Copeland Pope; his children, Annette Pope Jordan (Allen), Johnnie Kelsey Pope (Chanel), Ronald Nathan Pope (Tracey), Antwon Tyrone Pope (Tongela) and Herbert Beamon Jr.; his siblings, Henry Lee Pope, Bessie W. Eure, Joe R. Pope, Raymond C. Pope and Ellen R. Sabb; his grandchildren, Allen III, Alexander, Ashleigh, Dominique, Alexis, LaDonna, Ronald Jr., Shanell, Rontre’, Jamal, Jamelia, Ni’Jel, Nasir, Rontrell, Zoey, Ray, Michael, Shea’, Ja’Brell, Juneela, Aaliyah, Cheyenne and Trinity; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

There is a viewing for family and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Funeral services are at noon Saturday, June 10, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Como, North Carolina. Arrangements have been entrusted to Presidential Funeral Services.
