Suffolk Fire and Rescue responds to Sunday apartment fire, three people displaced

According to Suffolk Fire & Rescue, units responded Sunday morning, Sept. 17, 2023, to a reported residential structure fire in the 500 block of S. Main Street in Downtown Suffolk. Emergency Communications was contacted at 10:24 a.m. and the first unit arrived on scene at 10:28 a.m.
“Engine 2, Engine 1, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Medic 1, and EMS 1 arrived to find smoke and flames visible from a detached garage that was converted into an apartment,” the department said in a news release. “Crews were able to attack the fire, perform a primary search, and prevent the fire from extending to nearby residences. Three people occupied the apartment at the time of the fire and are displaced. The fire was placed under control at 10:39 a.m. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. It is unknown, at the time of this release, if the three adults will need assistance of the American Red Cross.”
The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.
