While residents will celebrate Halloween this month, the Salvation Army of Suffolk is gearing up to help residents during the holiday season. Capts. Kelsey and Johnathan Meredith, who serve as the officers for Suffolk, the city of Franklin, Isle of Wight, Southampton and Surry counties, need volunteer bell ringers. Capt. Kelsey Meredith talked about what volunteers can expect from taking part.
“They can expect to share a great experience in helping raise funds for the most vulnerable in our community,” Meredith said. “Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and have fun! It can be a family event! Consider giving back with The Salvation Army this year as we strive to meet human needs each day.”
Meredith emphasized that scheduling would be fine as volunteers can choose the best schedule. She provided details on the available hours.
“We ring Monday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., so whatever is best for them is what they can choose from,” Meredith said.
Meredith says that those interested in volunteering can go to registertoring.com. Volunteers would select their ZIP code and location while following the prompts to sign up either their group or team. She noted that raised funds would go toward the Salvation Army’s various programs.
“Volunteers help raise funds to help our after school program, our soup kitchen, and our year around programming for all ages,” Meredith said.
Lastly, Meredith also mentioned that “Angel Tree” and “Toys for Tots” sign-ups are also available for those interested. The Salvation Army will also host in-person
Angel Tree sign-ups for Franklin residents on Friday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Franklin Social Services.
“Angel Tree and Toys for Tots sign-ups have already been in full swing. If anyone still needs to sign up, they can sign up at saangeltree.com, select their ZIP code, and follow the prompts to sign up,” she detailed.
