Winter Wonderland Parade dazzles Downtown Suffolk

Saturday evening saw Downtown Suffolk come alive with jubilance and enthusiasm as the Holiday Parade returned on Saturday, Dec 9. With the theme of “Winter Wonderland,” the streets were filled with excitement among residents as the city brought forth spectacular parade floats, school marching bands, performing units, and dazzling street cars for all spectators. With appearances from many city officials, businesses, and organizations and even a special visit from Santa Claus ahead of Christmas Day, the City of Suffolk captured the magic of the holidays.
Parade participants were also judged with many winners seen in various categories. Best Marching/Walking Unit (Non-Band) saw a tie between Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Epsilon Chapter, and Furget-Me-Not Animal Rescue. Best Animal Unit went to the Stars & Stripes Drill Team, while Best Float Unit went to Weichert Realtor.
Best School Band saw Nansemond River High School take 1st Place, with King’s Fork High School winning 2nd Place and Lakeland High School winning 3rd Place. Likewise, the Best Performance Unit went to the Nansemond River Air Force JROTC. For Best Non-School Band, C.V. Russel Junior Ambassador took home 1st Place, with Kingdom Kids Marching Band taking 2nd Place.
Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA took home the top spot in Best Motorized Unit and Best Light Display. Finally, Best Themed Entry went to AMADAS Industries.
