Castel Calvin Hunt, of Suffolk, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at his residence. He was born on April 23, 1964, to the late Cleveland Hunt, Sr., and Dorothy Mae Hunt. Calvin was a beloved husband, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend.
Castel graduated from John Yeates High School. He is known to many as Castel, Calvin or Hunt. He was employed with Maersk (formerly Damco) for 11 years, until his passing. He was formerly employed with Vitex Packaging for 19 years. He faithfully attended Mineral Spring Baptist Church for many years. He was a faithful participant in the Men’s Ministry and was serving as Treasurer at the time of his passing. He was embraced by the Mineral Spring Baptist Church Family who loves him tremendously and will miss him a lot. He was a former member and Trustee of True Gospel Christian Church. Calvin will be remembered for his big, beautiful smile, kindness, humor and being the grill master at family gatherings. He was a long-time Dallas Cowboys fan and supported his team in the winning and losing seasons. He was quick-witted and kept those around him laughing, he enjoyed watching sports, listening to music, spending time with his family and friends and writing poems, which he started writing after his mother passed. He loved to cook.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife for 31 years, Peggy Sessoms-Hunt; sister, Helen Theresa Askew of Suffolk; brothers Cleveland Hunt, Jr. and Timothy Wayne Hunt, of Suffolk; aunt, Francine Majette of Newport News; mother-in-law, Virginia Mae Sessoms of Suffolk; step-mother, Gloria Jean Hunt of Suffolk; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Cordell, Pamela Clemons and Lavern Hayes of Suffolk; brothers-in-law, Lonnie Askew, Rev. Barry Sessoms and Carlton Hayes of Suffolk; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Crocker Funeral Home A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 12, at Mineral Spring Baptist Church, 4849 Mineral Spring Road, Suffolk, VA 23438. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made to Mineral Spring Baptist Church Men’s Ministry in honor of his memory, P. O. Box 8082, Suffolk, VA 23439. He will be laid to rest in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
